The Ivy Bar, Sydney

Details

Since opening in 2009, The Ivy Bar in Sydney has become the party playground of choice for many Sydneysiders. Housing bars, nightclubs, bistros, restaurants and even a pool on the roof, the massive complex has drinking areas to suit all tastes, party joints to keep going long into the night, and some of the city’s hottest new dining spots.

The Ivy Bar is on the first level of the complex and often the first port of call for visitors. The inside is all slick designer furniture and clean lines, not to mention plenty of pot plants and decorative touches. The large bar packs a punch and offers a good selection of beers on tap, as well as a well-rounded wine list featuring quality Australian and New Zealand drops.

The Den is another bar nearby and features a striking mirror bar, plush lounges and quirky, high-backed armchairs. The Den aims to be a bit flasher than the Ivy Bar and is most notable for its extravagant cocktail list. And when you’ve had a few at The Den, it’s only a few steps over to Sailors Thai, one of the many upscale eateries housed in the complex.

And then there are the two most talked-about bars of the Ivy complex: the members-only Penthouse and Pool Club. Accessed through a private lift, the Penthouse is all dark wood and cosy nooks. The balcony looks straight over the Pool Club, where shady palms line the water’s edge and patrons sip cocktails after cooling off in the water. Regular parties happen at the Pool Club, with live bands and DJs performing on a poolside stage.
